This is my first posting and I don't expect serious criticism because it's not serious poetry. It was fun to write it though and I thought it might give some of you a laugh. Grandad (my father-in-law) has a very dry sense of humour and wanted some "support" shoes for his birthday.

We thought about it long and hard,
Just what to give you with this card,
And thought we’d put a quid or two,
Towards your groovy platform shoes.
We know exactly what you’re thinking,
You’re making up for all that shrinking.
And in the hallway, when you’re standing,
You’ll be level with the landing.
So no more struggling on the stair,
Just take your shoes off and you’re there!
And when you’re walking down the street,
You’ll get respect from all you meet,
For English, German, French or Pole,
Admire a man with so much sole!

Hi Mick

This gave me a smile - I like it.

Although you state it is 'not serious poetry', it does it's job well - and I get a sense of your fondness and respect for 'Grandad', ' ... a man with so much sole!'

made me smile as well, I like a nice traditional poem - I could imagine Chas n Dave singing that. ;) (that's intended as a compliment).

I thought it was very apt to an aged gent with platform shoes.
Very funny. Anniecat

Welcome Mick,

Being a lover of shoes, I was drawn into this.
Very nice first post.
Wonderful to give a gift of a poem to someone.

Well done,

Everyone does realise this guy's not been around since 2006?
Rosencrantz: What are you playing at? Guildenstern: Words. Words. They're all we have to go on.
