Lighting a Stick of Incense

Now he lies a continent away
from here, in his usual T-shirt
and jeans. He prefers nymphs
to bibles, so no priests present.
His computer must be at rest, too
for we haven’t received
any emails nor seen
his name flashing since then.

What could I do
to a caring poet’s death?
Once, he wrote to me,
Just remember never
to underestimate yourself,
it can sometimes prove to be
just as detrimental
as overestimation.
If you’re unsure of
anything, just ask.

I was too late to ask
while he was awake.
Today, I light this thin
stick of incense for
this poet’s broad heart
on his 101st birthday.

This is really beautiful, Lake, one of your best. I like the thoughts behind it, and the way you have expressed yourself. Excellently done.

Beautiful. I got a chill. Very nice.
I am sure he'd be honoured, Lake.

It is very kind hearted, well done.

Lake,

Enjoyed the content of your lines. One of those pieces that makes one pause between breaks to appreciate the vastness.

Thanks for your replies to my previous posts, time has not been on my side of late.

Kind regards

What a lovely poem.It made me pause, think and re-read. I got the sense of a son away on his travels, but the theme of absence keenly felt could apply equally well to any lost love.

Thanks for a great read. I'm truly impressed by the quality of writing on this site.
