Epiphany
Behind the cloud, where every breath
of air must cease, the stars still burn.
They’re numberless. The planets turn
around the sun in endless round.
Now, you might see this when the day
fades into night. When dawn has come
and day thrones overhead, then you
won’t see those planets. All is blue.
Through blue air swept the angels, some
three decades past, and I was left
naked, bereft. The priest at Mass
said “Christ is risen,” and that sound
battered my heart. Around the globe,
the church bells rang. I cannot say
what brought an angel host my way –
some sad epiphany. I’ve come
to Easter once again, as in
the East, the sun prepares to rise –
as planets vanish from the skies.
Will angels sing when bells ring out
across our fallen world? Will they
come populate my restless brain?
I walk the streets of Earth today.
I’m tired. Make up my bed again.
Epiphany
I remembered this one John from the use of battered

The 'sad' epiphany a recognition that revelation can be an unwanted transformative experience. Interesting use of thrones.

Hi Phil,
Yup, battered! Battered hearts are so much better than just sauteed hearts. It's a sort of Milanese dish. But also: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/ ... ersond-god
The revelation in this case was certainly unwanted! I was a happy atheist at the time. Throne apparently is also a class of archangel, but here, I just like the suggestion of God's throne in the heavens. And the sun does throne at the zenith.
Cheers,
John
